Three stages, never conflated
Expected, realized, and verified are distinct states in the Value Ledger. CoreFinOps never promotes a saving to verified until cost data confirms it.
Expected
The saving estimated by the source recommendation at the time the action was created. This is a projection, not a guarantee.
Realized
The saving recorded after the customer team confirms implementation. The action is marked customer-confirmed and the amount is posted to the ledger.
Verified
The saving measured from AWS cost data after the implementation period. The evidence period and result are recorded. CoreFinOps only marks savings as verified when the cost data confirms the outcome.
What a verified record contains
- Source recommendation with estimated saving and confidence
- Approval record: actor, role, timestamp, comment, decision
- Customer-confirmed implementation date
- Evidence period: start date, end date
- Verified saving: actual vs expected delta
- Lineage: recommendation → action → approval → implementation → verification
